Canton Wins Monroe City Championship

The Canton Lady Tigers won the Monroe City Softball Touranment Championship for the first time in school history.

Round 1: Canton 9 Monroe City 1

A six-run explosion in the first inning carried the Canton Lady Tigers to a 9-1 win in five innings over Monroe City on Saturday.

The Lady Tigers scored in the first on an RBI single by Olivia Jarvis, a two-run double by Laken Hugenberg, an RBI single by Kailee Gaither, an RBI single by Katie Gaus, and an RBI single by Emma McKinstry.

Hugenberg racked up three RBIs on three hits for Canton.

Monroe City managed just one hit off of Canton pitcher Bri Caldwell, who allowed no earned runs, walked none and struck out three during her two innings of work.

The Lady Tigers piled on three more runs in the bottom of the second. Hugenberg started the inning with a single, plating Jensen Crenshaw. That was followed up by Saylor Collins 's single, scoring Allison Phillips.

Round 2: Canton 13 North Shelby 1

An eight-run explosion in the fourth inning lifted the Canton Lady Tigers to a 13-1 win in five innings over North Shelby on Saturday.

The Lady Tigers scored in the fourth on a fielder's choice, a walk by Emma McKinstry, a two-run double by Jensen Crenshaw, a two-run double by Allison Phillips, and an RBI single by Saylor Collins.

Crenshaw racked up five RBIs on two hits for the Canton Lady Tigers Varsity.

Bri Caldwell put together a nice outing. North Shelby managed just one hit off of the the Canton pitcher, who allowed no earned runs, walked three and struck out one during her five innings of work.

Championship: Canton 6 South Shelby 4

The Canton Lady Tigers took the last of three lead changes in a back-and-forth affair against South Shelby, securing a 6-4 victory on Saturday.

The Lady Tigers finally managed to grab the lead after a strong third inning. The Canton Lady Tigers scored on a three-run double by Saylor Collins, plating Allison Phillips, Olivia Jarvis and Laken Hugenberg.

Canton was led by Phillips's hitting. Phillips went 2-3, drove in one and scored two runs. She singled in the second inning and doubled in the third inning.

Jarvis picked up the win. She allowed no earned runs, seven hits and no walks while striking out four over seven innings of work.

Fenton was charged with the loss. She allowed six runs in six innings, walked one and struck out one.

The bottom of the second saw the Canton Lady Tigers take an early lead, 1-0. Phillips kicked things off for Canton with a single. A groundout by Jarvis then moved Phillips from first to third.
