Cooper Hudnut was strong at the plate and on the rubber in carrying the Canton Tigers to a 9-5 victory over Pearl City on Saturday at Carthage, IL.
Hudnut racked up two RBIs on three hits for the Tigers. He singled in the second, third, and fourth innings.
Pearl City couldn't get anything going as long as Hudnut was pitching. Hudnut gave up just one hit, allowed no earned runs, walked one and struck out three during his three innings of work.
In the bottom of the first, Pearl City grabbed the early lead, 3-0.
The Canton Tigers scored two runs in each of the second, third and fifth. In the second, the Tigers scored on a steal of home, plating Hudnut.
Pearl City survived the Canton Tigers surge and put up two runs of its own in the second.
In the fourth inning, Canton scored three runs on three singles.
The Canton Tigers Varsity built upon their lead with two runs in the fifth. A wild pitch scored Connor Chinnis for the inning's first run. That was followed up by Koy Smith's double, scoring Logan Brown.
